Connect your own domain
Updated October 8, 2026
Your published app already has a working address. To use your own, such as app.yourcompany.com.au, enter it in your project, add the two DNS records Dave gives you where your domain’s DNS is managed, and wait for it to verify. The security certificate is set up for you.
Before you start
- Your app is published. See Publish your app.
- You can sign in where your domain’s DNS is managed. That is usually the company you bought the domain from.
Step 1: Enter your address
In your project, open Publish, choose Manage, then Use your own domain. Type the address your users will type: just the hostname, with no https:// and no path.
Step 2: Add the two DNS records
Dave shows two records. Add both where your domain’s DNS is managed; the domain only verifies with both in place. Values are covered on screen, so a screenshot doesn’t carry them: choose Show to see one, or Copy to copy it.
| Field at your provider | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Type | The type Dave shows for each record |
| Name | Exactly as Dave shows it |
| Value | Use Copy, then paste |
| TTL | Leave whatever your provider suggests |
| Priority | Leave empty |
These are the only records needed. Leave everything else on the domain as it is, including mail (MX) records.
Step 3: Wait for it to verify
DNS usually spreads within minutes, occasionally hours. Dave checks by itself, so you can close the page and come back. Nothing else is needed from you.
- Waiting for DNS
- Dave is still looking for both records. Check they are added exactly as shown.
- Issuing certificate
- Both records are found. The security certificate is being set up.
- Live
- Verified and serving. Your users can reach the app at your address.
Using a root domain
A root domain is the address with nothing in front, such as yourcompany.com.au. For the first record, pick the ALIAS, ANAME or flattened CNAME type. Cloudflare, Squarespace, DNSimple, Namecheap and bunny.net all offer one. With another provider, an address such as app.yourcompany.com.au works with the standard types.
Changing or removing a domain
Change replaces the address with a new one. The current domain keeps working until the new one is accepted.
Remove takes your app off the domain, and it is reached at its original address again. The records you added stay at your provider until you delete them.
